Spectre of the Atom

Nineteen thirty-eight
Laboratory, Curiosity
Created an indoor sun
Faceless suits took it
The world changed

Early morning
Nineteen forty-five
Fire rained down
From the august sky
The world changed

The fifties brought
Big shiny buildings
Powering our lights
Very cheap, very clean
The world changed

Tamed was the atom
No joy the world wept
Chernobyl, Three Mile Island
Polluting mother earth
The world changed

Now we know the danger
Of poisoning sacred earth
We plan to keep on going
And build another set
The world needs change
