Paddys Market

It began way back
In days of old
A peoples place
Where goods were sold
But so much more
A community bloomed
The market stalls
A trip to town
But corporate greed
And image, image, image
Ripped an immigrant heart
Community pushed asunder
For bright lights
And shiny windows
A heart rent in two
From that day
The city's star
Burned a little dimmer
with the tables gone
And the gates padlocked

April 2009
