Mary & Yeshua

One of the interesting things about Witchcraft is your ability to choose to represent the divine in a particular way. In fact there is a huge variation in how we look at the divine. You can call the divine 'The One', the Great Spirit or you can acknowledge them as simply God and Goddess. If you like you can pick a particular representation for them, maybe even celebrate / work with a number of Gods and Goddesses.

Coming from a Catholic background which is essentially paganism with a veneer, I decided that I liked the idea of keeping Yeshua (Jesus) and Mary as my Lord and Lady. Jesus had always been God to me, so what was the point of choosing another one?

As for Mary, I believe that Mary is quite literally the true Goddess, the Great Mother. Her role was encoded into the bible stories as a submissive woman by a patriarchal church who did not dare to remove Her completely. I also feel called by the Goddess Rhiannon, this puzzles me because she is often linked with horses. Horses are a creature I do not have much of an affinity with.

Actually on the subject of Mary, there are three people in the new testament of that name. Every one of those was special to Jesus. I believe that the three Maries are in fact one, and represent the feminine divine who is being outrageously downplayed by the patriarchy. Hmm, three Maries.... tripple Goddess anyone?
