Goddess The Goddess is the Mother of all things. Life is her gift, but that gift comes with the promise of death. Not a death of nothingness, but a rest before being reborn again through the process of reincarnation.
The Goddess is often known as Mother Earth or Gaia, The Great Mother and by a large number of other names. Some people think of many Goddesses, known by names such Artemis, protector of children or Arianrhod, the celtic Goddess associated with the Aurora Borealis. There are many more belonging to different cultures including Hecate, Astarte, Diana and Brighid. There are thousands of Goddesses sacred to different peoples.
The Goddess has three key aspects representing the three main stages of life, the Maiden (Youth), Mother (Maturity) and Crone (Elderly). The maiden is a young woman in the springtime of her life, Just starting out in her life with all manner of experience lying in front of her. The mother is a mature woman with experience and wisdom gained. She is at her peak sexually and intellectually.
The crone, despite the word's negative connotations in modern culture is to be revered. She has lived her life, has great wisdom and knowledge. She is ready for death to complete her circle of life allowing her respite to prepare for rebirth. These aspects of the Goddess are reflected in the splendour of the night sky through the waxing, full and waning phases of the moon.
The Goddess has been neglected for years due to the popularity of the patriarchal "Abrahamic" religions. Of course there can be no doubt that these religions would not have been nearly as successful if they never been introduced to the people at the end of a sword!
It is of vital importance to get in touch with the feminine aspect of creation. We cannot expect the world to improve without balancing the energies. The Goddess must be acknowledged and worshipped in tandem with the God.
I believe that the (Protestant) Christian Church has systematically suppressed the worship of the Goddess. At least the Roman Catholic Church indirectly worship the Goddess through the special position held by Mary, the mother of Christ.
Oh wait, I'm not supposed to believe in Christ - I'm a witch! LOL Throughtout history there has been many times when the Divine have become incarnate and walked among us. The Hindus call them Avatars.
The more obvious ones in history have been Moses, Christ, Mohammed and Buddha. I believe there have been many more that have been incarnations of the divine: Joan of Arc, Ghandi, Mother Theresa, Martin Luther King...... Greek mythology has a time where the divine walked among us. I believe they still do!
