Darkness
A child lies in the darkness,
Scared beyond all reason,
Silent saying nothing at all,
Daddy might be coming,
And mummy doesn't see it.
Why must a child suffer so,
Does god just let it happen?
Maybe there is no god at all,
Maybe daddy is the devil.
The child breathes quietly,
Pretending she is asleep,
Her teddy her only ally,
Footsteps stop at the door,
Good night my little darling.
The devil moves on again,
Footsteps are fading out,
We're safe tonight teddy,
Whispers a thin voice,
Daddy's gone to bed.
